Breakthrough in the Cloud: IBM announces new Cloud computing offerings

Cloud computing is significantly shaping the way our clients do business. Cloud solutions can dramatically improve clients' customer service delivery from weeks to minutes which, in turn, provides a rapid ROI. This is a big moment, and a further build out of our Dynamic Infrastructure vision. After working with hundreds of clients, IBM is hardening its best practices into a formal, cross-company portfolio of cloud computing offerings. This week's announcement introduces exactly what clients want - new choices for service delivery that allows them to improve service, reduce cost and manage risk:
Smart Business Services - hands on help for customers to build cloud-based infrastructures either on the IBM cloud or behind the clients' firewall (a private Cloud) for the workloads that matter most to our clients, highlighting IBM Smart Business Test Cloud and IBM Smart Business Desktop Cloud.
Smart Business Systems - purpose-built systems, with pre-integrated hardware, storage, software and services, featuring the new IBM CloudBurst solution. CloudBurst is a set of pre-integrated offerings targeted toward specific workloads that optimizes your system and accelerates private cloud deployment.
While competitors offer point products, we are introducing integrated solutions that will leverage three powerful IBM advantages:
- We have embedded a proven IBM Service Management System in our new cloud offerings to provide visibility, control and automation across IT and business services to ensure consistent delivery.
- We will deliver solutions targeted for certain workloads to accelerate standardisation of services for rapid client payback on their investment and productivity gains.
- We will deliver three deployment choices for clients: building their own private clouds, public cloud services and purpose-built private cloud packages such as IBM CloudBurst.

IBM expects Business Partners will be a significant channel for IBM Cloud offerings long-term. You are already familiar with many of the components that help create Cloud solutions including Lotus Live, Information Protection Services, Smart Business for SMB, System x, storage and much more. Selling these significant existing Cloud offerings enhances our ability to start building the dynamic infrastructure needed to create a Cloud. IBM Cloudburst will be available to partners with the next release planned for later this year. Currently, there is a pilot program available.
